The Epic Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek: An Unforgettable Journey

Section 1
Among Nepal’s main walking paths, the Himalayas stand out. The Kanchenjunga mountain area is in eastern Nepal and is seen as a holy place by the local Limbu people. Kanchenjunga is the third-tallest mountain in the world, reaching 8,586 meters high. It is also called the ” Five Treasures of the Great Snow. ” Kanchenjunga is a holy mountain for both the Sherpa and Limbu people. It sits on the border of Nepal, India(Sikkim), and Tibet ( China). This area also has old Tibetan copper mines, and local religious customs are common here.

Phase 1: The Approach to the High Mountains
Day 1:
Morning (By Bus): Kathmandu to Birtamode ( 17 hours travel by bus)
Accommodation: Overnight stay in Phungling Bazaar
Morning ( By flight): Fly from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur
Accommodation: Overnight stay in Cheruwa

Day 2: Phungling Bazaar to Lamatar
Take a scenic jeep ride for 3-4 hours towards Lamatar (1894m)
Afternoon Trek: Continue with a 2-3 hours walk
settling into your hotel for a well-deserved rest in Lamatar.

Day-3: Ascending to Gyabla
Challenging walk: Undertake a significant 7 hours trek from Lamatar to Gyabla (2,691m)
Overnight: Find comfort and hospitality at a local hotel in Gyabla.

Day 4: Reaching Ghunsa
* Steady climb: A 6-hours walk brings you from Gyabla to the picturesque village of Ghunsa ( 3,412m).
Accommodation: Settle into your hotel in Ghunsa, preparing for the days ahead.

Phase 2: Deep into the Kanchenjunga a Santuary

Day 5: Ghunsa to Khambachen
High Altitude Trek: Embark on a 7 hours journey from Ghunsa to Khambachen (4,029m) entering high altitudes.
Stay: Rest and acclimatize at a hotel in Khambachen

Day 6: The path to Lonak
Scenic walk: A 6 hours walk takes you from Khambachen to Lonak (4,788m), a significant elevation gain.
Overnight: Stay in a hotel in Lonak, surrounded by the stunning high altitude landscape.

Day 7: Acclimatization in Lonak
Best and exploration:A crucial rest day in Lonak dedicated to acclimatization.
Cultural immersion: Take the opportunity to visit the local village and monastery, observing the unique mountain culture.

Day 8: Summiting KBC North( Pang Pema)
The Grand Ascent: This two-day segment is dedicated to reaching Kanchenjunga Base Camp North at an around 5,142m.
Expedition Day: You’ll undertake a 3-4 hours walk to KBC North, staying overnight in a hotel.

Day 9 : Descend from KBC North
Make the 5-6 hours walk back to Khambachen, where you will stay in a hotel.

Day 10: Khambachen to Ghunsa
Descent: A 4-5 hours walk brings you back from Khambachen to Ghunsa
Stay. Enjoy a comfortable stay in Ghunsa

Day 11: Second Rest Day in Ghunsa
Rejuvenation : Another essential rest day in Ghunsa, allowing for further recovery and enjoyment of the surrounding.

Phase3:The Untamed Wilderness & Remote Villages

Day 12: Ghunsa to Kharka( 4171m)
Trek for 6 hours from Ghunsa to Kharka
Wilderness stay: This marks your first exciting camping night in the pristine wilderness.

Day 13: Crossing Nangola Pass(4766m)
Camping: Spend the night in a tent near the camp.

Day 14: Nangola Pass Kharka [beside the camp(4345m)] to Chene (3011m)
Descent: A 5 hours walk from Nangola Pass kharka to Chene
Camping: Stay overnight in a tent in Chene

Day 15: Journey to Olangchunggola (3202m)
Cultural trek: Walk approximately 6 hours from Chene to the historic village of Olangchunggola
Accommodation: Choose between a tent or a local hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 16: Rest in Olangchunggola
Relaxation: A well-deserved rest day in the enchanting Olangchunggola, allowing you to explore the village and its surroundings.

Phase 4: The Final Ascent and Remote Wilderness
Day 17: Ascending to Langmale Kharka(4021m)
Camping: Spend the night under the stars in a tent.

Day 18: Langmale Kharka to Thangje
Long walk: A demanding 6 hours walk from Langmale Kharka to Thangje (4,469m)
Camping: Another night of camping in the high alitude wilderness.

Day 19: Reaching Yak Kharka
Final push: An extensive walk of approximately 10 hours from Thangje to Yak Kharka (4821m)
Last camp: Your final night of camping having reached another significant height point of your journey.

Section-2 Makalu Region
Mt. Makalu( 8,485 m)

Imagine a giant mountain that looks like a huge pyramid reaching way up to the sky – that’s Mount Makalu. It’s super tall, about 8,485 meters high! People think it’s a very special and holy place because its name is even connected to a powerful god, Lord Shiva. This amazing area in Nepal is part of a big park called Makalu Barun National Park. It’s full of beautiful things: hidden caves, pretty waterfalls, and huge areas of ice called glaciers, all surrounded by other big mountains. The local people truly believe this is where gods and spirits live, making it a very important and sacred spot. So, whether you love nature or are looking for a spiritual journey, Makalu offers an incredible experience and a deep sense of peace right in the middle of the mighty Himalayas.

Day 20: Yak kharka to Thudam(3565 meters high)
Walk downhill for about 5 hours from Yak Kharka to a pretty village called Thudam.
Saty overnight in tents under the open sky tonight.

Day 21: Thudam to Lower Yak Kharka (2710 meters high)
This will be a long day of walking, about 8 to 10 hours. It’s a bit tough, but we’ll get to Yak Kharka .
Stay overnight in a tent.

Day 22: Moving to Chyamtang (2271 meters high)
Walk for about 6.5 hours to Chyamtang.
Stay overnight in a comfortable hotel.

Day 23: Back to Hongon Village (2434 meters high)
We’ll walk for 8 to 9 hours today to go back to Hongon Village.
Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 24: Rest Day in Hongon Village (2434 meters high)
Today is for resting in Hongon Village. This helps our bodies get used to the mountain air. You can relax, look around, and get ready for more walking.

Day 25: Going Up to Bakim Kharka (3259 meters high)
We start from Hongon Village and walk uphill for about 6 hours to Bakim Kharka
Stay overnight in a tent, feeling like true adventure.

Day 26: Bakim Kharka to Molun Pokhari (3954 meters high)
We’ll walk uphill for 4 to 5 hours to reach the beautiful Molun Pokhari, a mountain lake.
Stay overnight in a tent with amazing views all around.

Day 27: From Lake to Pasture at Dhugge Kharka (3590 meters high)
Our walk today is about 5 to 6 hours from Molun Pokhari to open grassy areas called Dhugge Kharka
Stay overnight in a tent.

Day 28: Finding Cave Camp (3115 meters high)
A shorter walk of about 4 hours takes us to a special place called Cave Camp.
Stay overnight in a tent here.

Day 29: Towards Kale Pokhari (4192 meters high)
Today, we walk for 5 to 6 hours, climbing higher to get to the lovely Kale Pokhari, another mountain lake.
We’ll camp in our tents here overnight.

Day 30: Walking to Kharka (4096 meters high)
Another 5 to 6 hours of walking brings us to Kharka. Stay overnight in a tent and enjoy the wide-open views from this high spot.

Day 31: Journey to Yangle Kharka (3606 meters high)
We walk for 4 to 5 hours to reach Yangle Kharka.
Stay overnight in a tent or a small local hotel, whichever is comfortable.

Day 32: Another Rest Day at Yangle Kharka
We have another important rest day at Yangle Kharka. This helps our bodies get even more used to the height, which is very important for safety.

Day 33: Climbing to Langmale Kharka (4453 meters high)
Today is a tough climb, walking for 6 hours to Langmale Kharka. We’re getting much closer to the really big mountains now.

Day 34: Reaching Makalu Base Camp (4858 meters high)
This is a big day! After about 6 hours of walking, we reach the famous Makalu Base Camp.
Stay overnight in a hotel here, celebrating reaching this amazing place.


Day 35: Going Higher to Swiss Base Camp/GHT Camp (5200 meters high)
From Makalu Base Camp, we have a hard walk of 5 to 6 hours to reach Swiss Base Camp, also known as GHT Camp.Stay overnight in tents at a very high place.

Everest Region Trek

This is an amazing trip to see the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, up close! You’ll hike through stunning mountains, meet friendly Sherpa people, and visit famous places like Everest Base Camp.
How long?
Most trips take about 12 to 14 days. This includes time to get used to the high altitude so you stay safe.
Best time to go?
* Spring (March to May): Good weather, flowers blooming.
* Autumn (Late September to November): Best time! Clear skies and great views.
Key Things to Remember
* Get Fit: You’ll be walking a lot, so do some hiking beforehand.
* Altitude: Go slow! The “rest days” are important to help your body adapt.
* Guides: It’s smart to have a local guide and/or porter. They keep you safe and help with bags.

Continue the trek from Sherpenicol Base Camp to West Col (6200 m).

Descend from West Col to Hinku Basin (5500m).
Walk approximately 4-5 hours.

Day 39: Barunche Base Camp to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp
Trek from Barunche Base Camp to Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (5529 m).
Stay overnight in a tent.

Day 40: Amphu Lapcha to Chhukung
Descend from Amphu Lapcha to Chhukung (4750 m).
Walk approximately 10 hours.

Day 41: Rest Day in Chhukung
A well-deserved rest day in Chhukung (4750 m) for acclimatization and recovery. Explore the local area or simply relax.

Day 42: Chhukung to Dingboche
A short trek from Chhukung to Dingboche (4369 m)
Walk approximately 2 hours.
Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 43: Dingboche to Dzongla
Trek from Dingboche to Dzongla (4838 m).
Walk approximately 5 hours.
Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 44: Dzongla to Thangnak
Continue the trek from Dzongla to Thangnak (4700 m).
Walk approximately 6-7 hours.
Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 45: Thangnak to Gokyo
A relatively shorter trek from Thangnak to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes area (4800m)

Day 46: Gokyo to Lungden
Trek from Gokyo to Lungden (4369 m).

Day 47: Lungden to Thame
Descend from Lungden to the traditional Sherpa village of Thame (3803m).
Walk approximately 4-5 hours.

Day 48: Thame to Parchemuchke
Embark on a challenging trek from Thame to Parchemuchke Tsho (4819 m).
Walk approximately 8-9 hours.
Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 49: Parchemuchke to Tashi Lapcha High Camp
The final push to Tashi Lapcha High Camp (5670
m).

Section-4 Dolakha District (Rolwaling Region) 8 days

This trip is a great adventure into the mountains. You will see huge, snowy peaks like Gaurishankar and a beautiful blue lake called Tsho Rolpa. The trail is not busy, so you’ll feel like you’re exploring a secret part of Nepal. You will walk through peaceful forests and visit small villages where you can meet the local Sherpa people and learn about their culture. This trek is for those who want a real and unforgettable mountain experience.

Day 50: Tashi Lapcha High Camp to Glacier Camp

It’s a great choice for a peaceful mountain adventure away from the crowds.
