A 100-Day Women-Led Expedition Across Nepal’s Untamed Beauty
Embark on a 100-day, life-changing trek across Nepal’s Great Himalaya Trail, led by Maya Gurung. Covering 20-25 districts, the trek explores both lower and high-altitude routes, empowering women and promoting sustainable tourism.

Maya Gurung: The Daughter of Mountains

Maya Gurung, often referred to as the “Daughter of Mountains” in her hometown, is a true symbol of strength, resilience, and courage. At 45 years old, she has carved her name in history as the first woman from the Gurung community to summit Mount Everest. Her achievement is not just a personal milestone but a beacon of inspiration for women in Nepal and beyond, proving that determination and perseverance can conquer even the highest peaks.
Born into the towering landscapes of Nepal, Maya grew up surrounded by mountains, and they soon became her passion. Despite facing societal norms that often discourage women from pursuing mountaineering, she defied expectations and made her way to the top of the world. Her Everest summit was not just a personal triumph but a powerful statement—one that shattered barriers and redefined what women from her community could achieve.
Beyond her mountaineering success, Maya is a visionary. She played a key role in bringing forward the concept of the Great Himalayan Trail (GHT), a dream that connects Nepal’s diverse and breathtaking landscapes into one of the longest and most challenging trekking routes in the world. Through her advocacy, she has helped highlight the importance of adventure tourism, local empowerment, and sustainable trekking.
Maya’s journey shows her strong and fearless nature. She has encouraged many young women to break traditional barriers and explore new opportunities. Whether leading treks, supporting women in mountaineering, or promoting eco-friendly tourism, she continues to inspire and lead in Nepal’s adventure scene.
Her legacy stands as a reminder: the mountains belong to those who dare to dream, regardless of gender, background, or obstacles.
